blocking values makes accuracy difficult >:( i guess i just haven't gotten the hang of it, yet.

  1. Working at 100% opacity (70ish% flow) really forces you to mass in even if you dont want to. It's like drawing in pen. While you can still sketch with it, you are forcing yourself to be confident with each stroke to a certain degree. Like Erik says: recognize the mid tone first, the darks, the highlights. With those three values, a simple mass in should give you a very accurate likeness or a great amount of info to communicate a piece. Hope this helps, I know I had to really force myself to start doing it too. :)
